The Story of Claudia and Bruno
Claudia fostered Bruno along with his two other siblings. While his siblings quickly found their forever homes, Bruno couldn't because he was a shy boy who had a fear of children and men. Eventually, Claudia and her family decided to take Bruno in for good.
It seemed like a happily ever after for them, until something happened to Bruno...
Read on for our interview and video with Claudia.
In the middle of last year, Bruno wasn't able to walk properly and he contracted a fever a few days later. When they took him to the vet, nothing could be diagnosed.
"They also didn't know what was wrong with him because they did all the blood tests and things like that," Claudia recounted. "Everything came back clear."
However, Bruno's symptoms worsened. He started having seizures and flushes.
After multiple tests, Bruno was eventually diagnosed with Toxoplasmosis; an infectious disease caused by ingesting a parasite found in infected foods.
Bruno lost control of his bowel movement and hind legs. He had to wear diapers and he required 24-hour care.
"At the first one to two months, we got very little sleep because he couldn't sleep as well... He probably was very scared. Every time he woke up, he needed to rest his head on our leg or on our hands just to know that we are there with him."
The Road to Recovery
At the time of interview, it had been a few months since Bruno contracted the disease. He has since been recovering well.
"He still has a bit of difficulty walking now. He cannot stabilise himself properly, he cannot sit down properly... but he's trying his level best."
Just Like Any Other Dog
Despite his health, Bruno is just like any other pampered dog. When asked who runs the house in the family, Claudia immediately said that it was Bruno.
"He's the police of the house... He's also my alarm clock, like he dictates when I wake up because he wants to get fed... He'll start barking when he wants his food... He also knows when he's supposed to go down for his walks!"
If you had 10 seconds to talk to your dog, what would you say to your dog?
